FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Friday, February 8, 2013

FOR MORE INFORMATION: Ron Duvall, 773-3352

PIERRE, S.D. – The South Dakota Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) believes the Tulare Western Spink/Hitchcock aquifer may have additional water available for appropriation.

The aquifer lies west of the James River in Spink and Beadle counties. The department recently re-analyzed whether additional water is available from the aquifer.

Ultimately, the state Water Management Board will decide whether to approve new water right permits from this aquifer. Applications for water right permits are available from the DENR website at http://denr.sd.gov/des/wr/watrightsapps.aspx.

Applications for water right permits should be sent to Water Rights program, Joe Foss Building, 523 East Capitol, Pierre, SD  57501.
