Powertech (USA), Inc. - Uranium Exploration Permits

Powertech (USA), Inc. has submitted to DENR a uranium exploration permit application for 30 additional drill holes. The proposed exploration area is located within Powertech's current exploration area covered under EXNI-404 located about 13 miles northwest of Edgemont, SD. The legal location of the proposed exploration operation is portions of sections 29, 30, and 32; T6S-R1E, Custer County and portions of sections 2, 10, and 11; T7S-R1E, Fall River County. The purpose of this new drill program is to identify an area for a proposed uranium processing plant through the drilling of condemnation holes, which will ensure that the processing facility will not be constructed over potential ore zones. Drilling will begin upon issuance of the permit and acceptance of the reclamation bond by the Board of Minerals and Environment.

After the application is considered complete, DENR will publish a notice of filing which will allow the public to submit comments in support of or objecting to the application, or to intervene in the hearing on the application before the Board of Minerals and Environment. If people want to provide comments on the application or submit an intervention petition, they can either be emailed to DENR or mailed to our office at 523 E. Capitol, Pierre, SD 57501. Any comments submitted will become part of the permit file and will be considered by the board during the hearing on the application.

DENR Status

DENR has completed its review of Powertech's uranium exploration permit application and supplemental information and found it to be procedurally complete and filed as of September 24, 2008. In accordance with SDCL 45-6D and SDCL 1-26, a hearing on the issuance of the permit was held before the South Dakota Board of Minerals and Environment on November 19, 2008, in Pierre, South Dakota. The board approved Powertech's uranium exploration permit application. Powertech is required to submit a $78,600 bond to cover the cost of hole plugging and surface reclamation prior to the commencement of exploration activities.
