Nutrient Management/Manure Management Tools

Information required for Nutrient Management Plans under the 2017 Permit.

Information for developing nutrient management plans:

Proper manure management is an essential part of complying with the department's general permit. The following educational materials can assist producers in properly managing their manure.

Topeka Shiner Map - This map was developed by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to identify streams where Topeka Shiners have been observed or have potentially occupied and must be used to determine if an Endangered Species Action Plan will need to be submitted with a permit application for the proposed general permit.

Soil-Plant-Air-Water Weather Data - The department requires that the SPAW model be ran for some operations to demonstrate that the operation will not have a discharge if properly maintained and operated. The software requires the input of local weather data. This Weather Data is approved by DENR.

If you have questions about any of these management tools or if you have general questions pertaining to manure management, please contact Kent Woodmansey at (605) 773-3351.
