Nutrient Management/Manure Management Tools
NRCS Tool for developing an initial nutrient management plan form SD-CPA-63 (save as). Enable macros upon opening. A nutrient management plan must be developed and submitted as part of the permit application for producers seeking permit coverage for their operation.
DENR Tool to assist with determining the required buffers or setbacks to be implemented during winter applications of nutrients and developing winter time application maps which will need to be submitted with an Initial Phosphorus-based Nutrient Management Plan (NMP). The proper setbacks must be properly identified on the winter time application maps. Winter applications of nutrients must be set back a minimum of 300 feet from surface waters or water conveyances and a minimum of 1,000 feet from any National Hydrography Dataset (NHD) named lakes, rivers, or perennial streams which are identified in red on the Buffer Zone Determination Map for Winter Application of Nutrients.
NRCS Tools for calculating manure application rates with phosphorus assessment tool (form SD-CPA-8 or SD-CPA-63). Enable macros upon opening. Producers with EQIP contracts or using fields with elevated phosphorus levels can use one of these worksheets to calculate annual application rates. These calculations must be completed before land application of manure occurs and a copy of all calculations must be kept to comply with permit requirements.

Topeka Shiner Map - This map was developed by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to identify streams where Topeka Shiners have been observed or have potentially occupied and must be used to determine if an Endangered Species Action Plan will need to be submitted with a permit application for the proposed general permit.
Soil-Plant-Air-Water Weather Data - The department requires that the SPAW model be ran for some operations to demonstrate that the operation will not have a discharge if properly maintained and operated. The software requires the input of local weather data. This Weather Data is approved by DENR.
