Fall Smoke School 

 

The South Dakota Department of Environment and Natural Resources will offer a classroom session and visible emission evaluation certification (smoke school) October 4 – October 5, 2011, in Pierre, SD.  The classroom session is not required, but is recommended for those who have not previously attended.  Topics covered in the classroom session will include: the history behind visible emissions evaluation (VEE), the primary components of the smoke generator, what goes on during field certification, and how to adequately document your VEE.

In an effort to even out the crowd, you may want to consider attending the field certification the second day if you aren’t attending the classroom session.  Smoke school certification must be repeated every 6 months.  The classroom session will be held in the Matthews’ Training Center, on the main floor of the Joe Foss Building, 523 E. Capitol, Pierre, SD.  The field certification will be held at the National Guard Armory located at 3400 E. Highway 34, Pierre, SD.  Each registrant need only pass a single run to become certified. This training class will be offered free of charge.
