CLEAN DIESEL GRANT PROGRAM

You are invited to apply for funding from the South Dakota Clean Diesel Grant Program (Program). The Program provides funds that will allow you to purchase new public school buses to replace old, high-emitting public school buses, and to equip in-use diesel school buses with exhaust control retrofit devices that significantly reduce toxic soot emissions. The primary goal of the Program is to reduce your school children’s exposure to both fine particulate and smog-forming pollution. SD DENR provides the grant funding and administers the Program.
There is no cost for the exhaust control retrofits. Total award per school district for a replacement bus will be at least 25% of replacement cost and may be more depending on the number of successful applicants. Grant recipients may not use grant funds to pay for administrative expenses. DENR intends to award funds to as many eligible applicants throughout the state of South Dakota as possible. The completed applications will be reviewed by DENR. Preference will be given to the school districts that are also applying for exhaust control retrofit installation. Preference will be given to school districts not receiving funding during round one. Replacement bus funding will be awarded to replace older buses first.
Note: Bus and Retrofit purchases must not occur before school districts receive school board approval and execute an agreement with DENR.
